Developmental Editing Overview
In a developmental edit, I will read your entire manuscript and point out all of the things that worked well for your story, as well as the things that could be improved upon. Story elements I will focus on include overall plot, character development, coherency, pacing, narrative consistency, and more. A developmental edit will make some suggestions on the line level as well as vocabulary and punctuation edits. The goal of a developmental edit is to eliminate plot holes, inconsistencies, and pacing issues. A developmental edit is meant to be a guide for you to refine and elevate your story in the next step of your editing process. For a developmental edit, you will receive the following:
- One developmental letter breaking down the elements listed above for you to use as your "handbook" to your next step in the editing process.
- A tracked document with in-line comments for specific recommendations.
- Open communication with me to ask questions at any point in the process.

The turnaround for manuscript edits varies based on the word count. As a general rule, expect one week of turnaround time per 50,000 words. For example: A 150,000 word manuscript would take three weeks to edit.

Line Editing Overview
Line edits are what make your story come to life. Whether you love a poetic and flowery style of writing, or you are looking for a balance of showing and telling, line edits will make each sentence flow into one another, creating a cohesive and naturally flowing story. This type of editing looks at sentence structure and word choice to ensure your sentences not only sound good by themselves, but work well within the paragraph and overall context of the story. For a line edit, you will receive the following:
- One critique letter containing strengths and weaknesses noticed throughout the work. This document will highlight your strengths in sentence structure and word choice, and ways you can improve on a broader level.
- A tracked document with in-line comments for specific recommendations.
- Open communication with me to ask questions at any point in the process.
